Invitation: The Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC) cordially invites contributors to submit papers for the International Hybrid Conference on the Status of the Chagos Islands, based on the following themes and subjects:

  • International law and litigation
  • Justiciability and enforceability of international legal instruments
  • Reflections on the US and the UK’s attitude to the ICJ ruling of 2019
  • Responses to the UNGA Resolutions regarding the Chagos Question
  • Mauritius and the Chagos question
  • The role of solidarity, the African Union and others
  • Reflections on independence, freedom, sovereignty, decolonisation
  • Reflections on forced displacements
  • Democracy and Human Rights
  • Right to Development
  • Comparative cases


Due date: You must send a 300-word abstract on or before 5 July 2022, Therefore, the full draft of papers for the conference is due on 9 September 2022.  Papers must be between 5000 to 7000 words, in Times New Roman font size 12 with 1.5 spacing, using the APA citation and referencing style.
