2. Book Fair

The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC), held two sessions at the South African Book Fair on Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September 2019.

Session 1: The Pan-African Pantheon

Chair: Professor Adekeye Adebajo, Director at the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC).

Speakers: Ms Maureen Isaacson, Former Sunday Independent Journalist, South Africa, on Ruth First.

Dr. John Lamola, Department of Philosophy, University of Pretoria, on Paulin Hountondji.

Professor Barney Pityana, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of South Africa, on Steve Biko.

Dr. Bongani Ngqulunga, Director at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS), University of Johannesburg, on Pixley Ka Seme.

Session 2: South Africa-Nigeria Relations: A Roller-Coaster Ride

Chair: Mr. Ronnie Kasrils, South Africa’s Former Minister of Intelligence.

Speakers: Dr. Oluwaseun Tella, Senior Researcher, Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation, University of Johannesburg, and Editor of the book.

Professor Jo-Ansie van Wyk, Department of Political Sciences, University of South Africa, Tshwane.
