The University of Johannesburg’s Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation screened a film on “Cry Freedom” Friday, 22 September 2017. Cry Freedom is a film of “The unforgettable friendship of two unforgettable men. The tension and terror that [was] South Africa is powerfully portrayed in director Richard Attenborough’s sweeping story of black activist Steve Biko (Denzel Washington) and a liberal white newspaper editor Donald Woods (Kevin Kline) who risks his own life to bring Biko’s message to the world”.
